SUSTAINABILITY
What does it mean to be a sustainable clothing brand?
RE-BELLO is a sustainable fashion brand because it uses only materials of certified organic origin (such as GOTS certified organic cotton) or materials obtained from recycling (such as RE.VERSO recycled cashmere), which have a lower impact on the environment and on people's health as they are free of substances and chemical agents. In using these types of fabrics, RE-BELLO relies on manufacturers who safeguard both the planet and the conditions of workers in the production process, choosing sustainably certified factories in the Mediterranean area (Italy, Greece, Turkey) to also reduce the environmental impact of transporting goods.
How do I know the composition of my garment?
You can find the composition of your garment on the label inside the garment itself, or in the "Material" section of each individual item in our online shop.
Why is organic cotton better than conventional cotton?
Organic cotton is produced with respect for the environment and the workers, from cultivation to processing.
In contrast to the production process of conventional cotton, no GMO and/or chemical treated seeds are used in the production of organic cotton. Furthermore, no insecticides or pesticides are used on the crops, which also require less water for irrigation due to the greater attention to the health of the soil used.
With regard to processing, in the non-organic cotton chain, fabrics are treated with heavy metals, chlorine and chemical dyes. For organic cotton, however, more sustainable and less harmful alternatives are preferred, such as natural dyes.
To distinguish organic cotton from conventional cotton, simply check the label and make sure it is certified OCS (Organic Content Standard), OCS 100 (Organic Content Standard 100) or GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard).
Why is the fashion industry polluting?
According to estimates by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the clothing industry is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions and uses around 93 billion cubic metres of water each year, which would be enough to meet the needs of 5 million people.
Particularly polluting is the fast fashion industry, which encourages consumers to buy new, trendy clothes and throw away old ones: it is estimated that each garment is worn an average of 7 times before being replaced by another.
In view of the future increase in population and the resulting increase in demand for clothing, it is essential that the fashion industry, the third largest manufacturing sector globally, offers more sustainable alternatives.
How is the decision of not making collections sustainable?
The biggest fast fashion brands produce a collection of clothes every week to keep up with the latest trends. However, this has a huge impact on the environment, as large quantities of clothes are produced, which, if unsold, are often burnt or disposed of in landfills.
RE-BELLO, on the other hand, aims to eliminate the seasonality of clothing by producing basic, quality garments that can be worn "timelessly". In this way we encourage our customers to buy less but better.
